She stopped dead in her tracks, her hand hovering over the light switch. Unable to move. It was a faint and oddly powerful glow. So natural and yet so out of place. The ripples of the water and the large floating chunks bathed in the glory of the white pure moonlight. The digital alarm blaring 7:43 a.m. She couldn't make herself move despite the tugs of the days tasks. Her eyes gazing out at the bay, lost in the beauty of the moment. Absorbed by natures odd ways. A faint clamor in another part of the house disrupted the magic of the moment and reality began to fade back in. Like a camera coming into focus.
Simultaneously trying to ease children into their days whilst gathering a hundred bags and trying desperately to go through mental checklists. Constantly being interrupted and having to begin again. Tick, tick, tick went the clock. Tick, tick, tick went the check marks in her inventory.
Like little balls of of curdled cheese they all sat frozen as if to say that they didn't belong out here. Twenty tiny fingers curled inside jacket sleeves. Eyes covered by furry hats. Little noses poking out. Forming ice crystals on the inside of the car. Pleading that they would evaporate and that the journey could start. Searching for any form of aid to shoo away the icy goblins.
Little feet having pattered away, the car trudged down the now clear roads. Gazing out past the frosty covered trees, she could feel their anticipation to shake their leaves free of their burden. Much akin to a wet dog after a bath. Past the trees, the moon was still and calm in it's orangey round glow, quickly being hurried away by the sun rising behind her. Racing the sun the moon finally gave heed and feeling lowly, coward behind the mountains.
Mother nature's balance.
