A W.I.C (woman in charge) that's what I was. In charge. Of a kid. A 4 year old kid. That I'd met only 5 days ago. On my own. For 12 hours. With a vehicle and a chicken....
A W.I.C....
.....now understands why people go to bed at what was once thought to be the ridiculously early hour of 9 p.m.
..... is now up at 6:45 a.m. without the aid of an alarm clock and can't make herself go back to bed.
....now showers in the evening and doesn't give a rats arse about her hair looking like a nuclear explosion.
....hustles two munchkins through morning routines in 45 minutes, when it normally took herself over an hour and half to sludge through the morning with no munchkins.
....thinks she has all the getting ready things on the check list done, only to realize when pulling said kiddo out of the car that their hair looks like they rolled out of bed. Which they did.
....somewhat arrogantly and expertly navigates her way through a new town.
...calls the image below...an idiot message:
.....screams when seeing a chicken in the driveway and then gets chased and has to poke it in the rear with a stick to return it to its coop because she thought she somehow could pick it up...yea...
....consents to letting children watch two movies, after a 12 hour marathon day and justifies it by citing them as "educational."
.....gives up after naming 5 dinner options and resorts to mac and cheese...again... for dinner.
.....can make a 4 year old laugh during a snow ball fight.
.....can trudge through snow at a nature preserve she oh so excellently found on her own accord.
...can also take pictures one handed while helping previously mentioned four year old through snow.
....can lose a dog on the beach, have a heart attack, find the dog, only to lose him four tiny minutes later.
.....is slowly starting to warm up to the Alaska cold and doesn't shiver like a pansy when getting out of the shower.
....is completely OK with eating like a small piggy and chalks it up to being cold.
....is OK with crying when talking on Skype to friends back home who serenade her with guitar solos.
....is completely OK with letting other people take kiddos to school to enjoy an hour of sleeping in.
...is coming to terms with living on her own, in a new land, that this land is Alaska, that the future may not be clear and may change on a moments notice and that life is to be enjoyed.
