Brrrrrrrrrrrr

I'm pretty much a zombie right now but I will do my best to try and sound coherent and piece together the puzzle that was today. I also can't stop shivering so it's a good thing we've gone digital...

Well after only fours of sleep that felt more like a nap I was up at 6 a.m. and out the door by 7:30, luggage in hand...but you probably just want me to skip to the good stuff huh?......patience....I gave my Dad a tearful goodbye and tried not to blubber at the baggage check. The lady gave me grief because my suitcase was 2 lbs over the limit...you try packing your life into a suitcase missy moo....

We got seated really fast, practically right when I got there. Thankfully I wasn't stuck to anyone smelly, snoring or otherwise obnoxious.   I also have a tirade about security check points but that's a different discussion...

I was really excited to see that they had a vegan lunchbox option! Besides who doesn't want to eat hummus at 10:00 a.m. ?!?

The flight had it's turbulence but it went quicker than expected. I'm not much of a fan of peeing while clutching for dear life to a hand rail let me just tell ya....

However, flying in at the end especially was just jaw dropping. Huge snowy mountain ranges that stretched for miles and looked like the drawings we made as kids, pointy snowy tops and bald grey bottoms.

We actually got in about 45 minutes early, no real use to me, but hey. Just like a big girl should I navigated my way around the airport, thankful for good signage. Well apparently even on a direct non stop flight they can lose luggage...and they lost mine. Thankfully it was just the bag with coats and I smartly pulled out the largest one to carry with me. Hopefully they can track it down and I get it tomorrow here in Anchorage or they'll send it to Kenai (KEY-nai-I've been butchering it) airport.

The girls mom (D) and little A picked me up and she came swooping in with a big hug and even wanted to hold my hand! My old nanny habits weren't too dusty. D took us out to lunch and again surprise had a ton of veggie/vegan options. This restaurant is one of three I guess inside a second showing movie theater. My salad was actually really tasty and hit the spot. A and I patted a dog for a bit in the art store while D picked up a few things. Let's see there was a trip to Costco in there too.

I also got to meet D's mom who is a fabulous lady. Her whole house is decorated with her art and photography. It's just amazing. We had dinner at D's brothers house on a military base here in Anchorage. They were even kind enough to be accommodating and made me a veggie burger!

OK the weather-they all think it's warm here but I haven't stopped shivering since I stepped off the tarmac. The pilot announced that it was beautiful 20 degrees in Anchorage. I apparently haven't comprehended this concept. Especially given that I just left 60 degree weather where I was also cold. Apparently kids here play outside when it's 0 degrees outside and 60's is shorts weather.

Well it's been a long day and I've rambled enough for one night. Quick video chat with my brother and then I will be out like a lamp...

  2. So glad that you arrived safely! I was in Alaska in the summer, and the second day, we went to Wasilla. It was around 60 degrees, I had on a sweatshirt, and people were swimming at the beach!!! I also picked up a newspaper one day and read about a marathon on a 70-degree day. People were passing out because of the "sweltering" heat! Traveling is amazing. Soon you'll be laughing at us for suffering through our Illinois winters. Thank you for sharing your adventures here!!!
