A 5,6,7,8 and Dosey Do!

So, I normally have the weekend off, freeish from kiddos, but I volunteered to "take em" this weekend. Mom was nominated for a big award up in Anchorage and Dad was involved with something, I think going out of town or buying a car. It was actually kinda fun. We weren't racing around trying to get from place to place. We all just hung out and had a really relaxing morning. M took a snow-machining (back home it's called a snowmobile) class with her papa. A and I painted and hung out.  After M got back the girls played together. They're such good sisters and it's really fun to watch their imaginations soar. They remind me a lot of my brother and myself when we were little. All of the imaginative games that we played. Well usually I was the teacher and/or bossing my brother around. Yet, we're still friends... :P

I myself was feeling a little cooped up and wanted to get out of the house. We drove over to Beemun's, let me clarify, driving over in this rural part of town means at least a 20 minute drive, one way. It's OK because the scenery is pretty nice. I had an art project in mind for the girls to make for their Mom's birthday so I let them pick out some paint and sparkly paper. We stopped at the supermarket, which I think is under the same parent company of Dominck's because my rewards card worked. Anyway, not feeling like finagling dinner, I let the girls get chicken from the deli and cookies for the dance.

Ahhh...yes the dance! So I thought I was going to have the girls all night but it turned out that J was staying home. Well ahead of that I was planning on taking the girls out anyway. I had seen signs all week for a contra dance. So I did a little research and decided to take the girls with me. Part of me was feeling super nervous about going to something like this but the other part of me thought, who the hec cares? Turns out...we had such a blast! It was so nice to be around other humans and adult ones at that! Not to mention there was a pretty cute guy there too! ;)

OK so here's a link explaining contra dancing if I fail to summarize it correctly. (http://www.sbcds.org/contradance/whatis/#Def0 )Basically there is a band, with banjos, guitars and fiddles and a caller who teaches you the moves. I partnered up with my four year old and M found another girl to dance with. If you aren't dancing with a boy one person acts as the boy and wears the tie. I was the boy. So you all get lined up and the caller tells you the different moves. This group of people were so friendly and easy going. I've never laughed so hard and been so OK not knowing what I was doing. A was giggling the whole time and kept up pretty well. M was rather serious about the whole matter but seemed to enjoy it. After about an hour and a half, three cookies and some pretzels later we bundled up and headed for home. I read the girls books and got them in their jammers and they snuggled up with their papa.

Note to self for the future...don't eat beans prior to dancing and remember to remove long undies!!

(this was the moose we saw on the way home!)
